Hampta Pass: The Picturesque Trekking Destination

Hampta Pass is one of the most picturesque locations in the entire country. The snow covered mountains, lush green meadows, alluring landscapes, flowing rivers, all are a sight to behold. The Hampta pass is also the connecting pass between two of the major valley of Himachal Pradesh i.e. Kullu Valley and Lahaul Chandra Valley. Besides the trekking trails other major attractions around the Hampta pass includes: Waterfall at Chikka, Plains of Balu ka Gera, Jwara Meadows, Spiti Valley, Lahaul Valley and Chandratal Lake. Hampta Pass attracts trekkers from various corners of the world all year round. 

Hampta Pass: Difficulty Level & Ideal Duration

The trekking trail leading to Hampta Pass is smooth and commutable one. The difficulty level to do the Hampta pass trek can be rated on the scale between easy to moderate. This means that the trek is not difficult rather relatively easy. The Hampta Pass is the ideal trekking destination for first-time trekkers as well. An average human with a physically fit body can easily transverse through the trekking route. The trekking trail is also suitable for children and family as well. The minimum age required for a person to do Hampta Pass trek is 15yrs, which means that the children can also do it. One must make sure that they are physically fit before commencement of the trek. As the trekking expedition is not suitable for people suffering from any kind of heart or asthmatic disease or might have breathing issues. The reason being that they can face severe problems upon reaching high altitudes as there is lack of oxygen on high ranges. 

The ideal duration to do the Hampta pass trek is 5 days. The 35kms long trek is ideally covered in 5 days with 1 day set out for an exclusive visit to the Chandratal lake. During the 5 days period one can witness the grandeur called Nature in a variety of manner. The trekking expedition starts from Base camp Chika. On the first day trek starts from Chika and ends at Balu ka Ghera. This is a 8 hour long trek. On the second day, trek further from Balu ka Ghera to Siagoru. Camp overnight at Siagoru to rejuvenate yourself. On the third day, trek further downhill from Siagoru to Chatru. On the fourth day, visit the famous Chandratal lake. The lake got its name due to the moonlike structure of the lake. For the final day, drive back to Manali to mark the end of your Hampta Pass trekking trip.       

How to reach

The initial point from where the Hampta pass trek starts is from the village of Jobra. The Jobra village is at most two hours from Manali. It is essential that one is required to come to Manali in order to take the Hampta Pass trekking expedition. The city of Manali is well connected by air, rail, and road to the major cities in the country. Ideally the most popular destination from where the majority of people arrive in Manali is Delhi. 

By Air

 

The closest airport to which one can fly to reach Manali is the Kullu Manali airport. The Kullu Manali airport is at a distance of 52kms from Manali and is situated  in the town called Bhuntar. The single runway airport operated flights from only three destinations in India i.e. Delhi, Shimla & Chandigarh. From the airport, one is required to travel on road via car to reach Manali.

By Rail

 

The least preferred route by the travellers to reach Manali is through the rail. The nearest railway station which is called Jogindar Nagar Railway Station is around 116 km away from the city of Manali. The factor that makes the railway the most avoided mode of transport to reach Manali is that only the trains from Pathankot arrive and depart from the Jogindar Nagar Railway station.

By Road 

 

Roads serve as the major connecting point to the city of Manali. Manali is well-connected by national and state highways to the nearby cities. Regular private and government buses ply between Manali and these destinations. One of the most popular routes is taking an overnight volvo from Delhi to reach Manali. The road is the most preferred way to travel to Manali.
